About My Work
Artist’s Statement
Through the clay medium I endeavour to find a language to create work that approaches a universal aesthetic; making objects that people never tire of.
I am primarily a vessel maker for utilitarian ceramics and I always seem to be looking for an angle to create an idea of form or texture into a vessel of some description.
Presently the forms coming to mind are representative of local rock formations around Blackheath; where I live.
Blackheath is a small village in the Blue Mountains a World Heritage Listed area west of the Sydney Basin.
More recently I have been making larger scale environmental sculptural work.
I believe the environment I live in is reflected in the pots I create and I aim to use local materials wherever possible.
Having chosen clay as my primary medium for expression I find the clay directs my work process.
Utilising the particular clay’s properties and exploring its limitations increasingly defines my work.
